The ice on the ponds has melted, and the night herons have just returned to the islands from their African wintering grounds. At Bird Saucepan in Ochaby, black-headed gulls have already settled in, beginning their courtship displays and tentatively building nests. In two months, when their chicks leave the nests, common terns will arrive.
The Bird Barrel at the Goczałkowice Reservoir is also dominated by black-headed gulls, but most importantly, ornithologists have observed the first Mediterranean gulls there. A few pairs are already circling around this attractive breeding site for these rare gulls. This is just the beginning of the breeding season for birds in the Upper Vistula Valley, and we hope it will be better for them than in previous years.
